Yes. Custom fasteners can be manufactured to meet the mechanical requirements of grade 12.9, one of the highest commonly used strength classes for metric fasteners. At HETAI, we manufacture custom bolts, screws, studs, nuts, and other special fasteners according to specific application requirements, including requirements for high tensile strength, hardness, dimensional accuracy, and durability.
More importantly, custom fasteners are not limited to grade 12.9. Depending on the application, material, design, and required mechanical performance, HETAI can manufacture fasteners to meet different commonly used strength classes, including 8.8, 10.9, and 12.9.
What Does Grade 12.9 Mean?
Grade 12.9 is commonly associated with high-strength alloy steel fasteners. Compared with lower strength classes, grade 12.9 fasteners are designed to provide higher tensile strength and yield strength, making them suitable for demanding mechanical applications.
For metric property classes, the “12.9” designation indicates a nominal tensile strength level of approximately 1,200 MPa, with a specified yield-strength ratio. However, achieving this performance in a custom fastener requires more than simply selecting a high-strength material.
The material grade, forming or machining process, heat treatment, thread geometry, dimensional accuracy, and quality control all influence the final mechanical performance.
Can HETAI Manufacture Custom 12.9 Fasteners?
Yes. HETAI can produce custom high-strength fasteners designed around the customer’s drawings, specifications, and application requirements.
For suitable products, alloy steel can be selected as the base material, followed by an appropriate heat-treatment process to achieve the required strength and hardness. Depending on the product geometry and production volume, HETAI may use cold heading, CNC machining, thread rolling, or a combination of manufacturing processes.
Thread quality is also important. A high-strength fastener must maintain appropriate thread dimensions and surface quality so that it can perform reliably under the required load.
For critical applications, mechanical properties and dimensions can be verified through appropriate inspection and testing procedures.
What About Grade 8.8 and 10.9?
Custom fasteners do not have to be manufactured to grade 12.9. Grade 8.8 and grade 10.9 are also widely used strength classes, and they can be appropriate when extremely high strength is not necessary.
For example, grade 8.8 is commonly used for general mechanical assemblies and industrial equipment. Grade 10.9 provides higher strength and is often selected for more demanding mechanical applications. Grade 12.9 is generally considered when higher strength and load-bearing capability are required.
Choosing the highest possible strength class is not always the best engineering solution. Material cost, hardness, toughness, corrosion resistance, manufacturing requirements, assembly conditions, and the actual service load should all be considered.
How Does HETAI Select the Right Strength Class?
When producing custom fasteners, HETAI considers several factors:
- Required tensile and yield strength
- Working load and safety factor
- Material and heat-treatment requirements
- Thread size and geometry
- Operating temperature and environment
- Corrosion and wear requirements
- Manufacturing process and production quantity
- Dimensional tolerances
- Surface treatment and finishing requirements
- Applicable customer or industry standards
Based on these requirements, we can recommend an appropriate material, manufacturing process, heat treatment, and strength class.
HETAI: Custom Fasteners for Different Strength Requirements
At HETAI, we understand that every application has different mechanical requirements. Custom fasteners can be manufactured not only to meet grade 12.9 requirements, but also to meet commonly used grades such as 8.8 and 10.9, depending on the design and application.
Our goal is not simply to manufacture the strongest possible fastener. Instead, we focus on producing the right fastener for the specific application, balancing strength, durability, manufacturability, dimensional accuracy, and cost.
From prototype and low-volume production to larger quantities, HETAI provides customized manufacturing solutions for high-strength and special fasteners according to customer drawings and technical specifications.
