To manufacture custom fasteners accurately, HETAI needs enough technical information to understand the product’s dimensions, material, performance requirements, manufacturing method, and intended application. The more complete the information provided, the easier it is for our engineering team to evaluate manufacturability, select the appropriate process, and provide an accurate quotation.

1. Technical Drawing or Physical Sample

The most useful information is a technical drawing or 3D CAD file showing the complete dimensions and tolerances of the custom fastener. The drawing should ideally include thread specifications, head dimensions, shaft dimensions, critical tolerances, chamfers, grooves, holes, and other special features.

If a drawing is not available, HETAI can also evaluate a physical sample. Photos, measurements, sketches, or an existing product can also help our engineers understand the required design.

2. Material Requirements

Material selection directly affects the strength, corrosion resistance, machinability, weight, and overall performance of a custom fastener. Customers should specify the required material and grade whenever possible.

Common materials include carbon steel, alloy steel, stainless steel, brass, aluminum, and other engineering materials. If the material is not specified, HETAI can recommend a suitable option based on the application and required performance.

3. Thread Specifications

For threaded fasteners, thread information is critical. Please provide the thread diameter, thread pitch, thread type, thread length, and thread direction when applicable.

For special applications, customers may also need to specify left-hand threads, fine threads, coarse threads, internal and external thread combinations, or other non-standard thread requirements.

4. Dimensions and Tolerances

Overall length, diameter, head size, thread dimensions, hole dimensions, and other critical features should be clearly defined.

If certain dimensions require tighter tolerances, these should be identified on the drawing. HETAI can then evaluate whether cold heading, CNC machining, grinding, or a combination of processes is appropriate.

5. Mechanical and Performance Requirements

Customers should provide any specific requirements for strength grade, hardness, tensile strength, load capacity, wear resistance, or other mechanical properties.

For example, high-strength fasteners may require specific material selection and heat treatment to achieve the required mechanical performance.

6. Surface Treatment

Surface treatment requirements should also be specified when applicable. Depending on the material and application, options may include zinc plating, nickel plating, black oxide, passivation, coating, or other surface finishes.

The required corrosion resistance and operating environment can help HETAI select an appropriate surface treatment.

7. Application and Operating Environment

It is helpful to tell us where and how the custom fastener will be used. Information such as temperature, humidity, exposure to chemicals, vibration, load conditions, installation method, and service environment can affect material and process selection.

Application information is particularly important when the original technical specifications are incomplete.

8. Quantity and Delivery Requirements

Please provide the estimated order quantity, target production volume, and expected delivery schedule. Production quantity can significantly influence the most economical manufacturing process, tooling requirements, and unit cost.

For example, CNC machining may be suitable for prototypes and low-volume production, while cold heading may provide better efficiency for larger quantities.
